Stairway to heaven: former church in popular suburb for sale in auction
Former church for sale in auction.
A former church on land in Birmingham that’s ripe for potential development will appear in Bond Wolfe Auctions’ next auction at Villa Park on Wednesday 23 October.
The property known as Sheldon Gospel Hall first opened for worship just after the end of World War Two at 575-577 Barrows Lane in Sheldon and has a guide price* of £125,000 to £135,000.
The property, which had also hosted the Joolz Dance Studio since 1991, consists of a church hall and various other accommodation in approximately 1,300 sq ft of space, situated on a site of about 0.06 acres.
Gurpreet Bassi, chief executive of Bond Wolfe Auctions, said: “What was originally a religious site has served the local community well for more than 70 years and is now ready for its rebirth into the future.
“This former church hall in Sheldon present a property which may have potential for alternative uses and redevelopment, subject to planning permission, and we expect tough competition from bidders wanting to buy it.
“The building is well-located in a predominantly residential and popular suburb of Sheldon, about three-and-a-half miles to the north of Solihull town centre and about seven miles to the south east of Birmingham city centre.”
The former church premises are just one of more than 120 lots going under the hammer in Bond Wolfe Auctions’ next sale on Wednesday 23 October at 10.30am at the regular venue of the Holte Suite at Aston Villa FC.
Bond Wolfe Auctions has already offered 490 lots since launching in January this year, including properties across the East and West Midlands and as far afield as Wales and Scotland.
The first four auctions have raised £55 million in sales with an average success rate of 85.5% against the national average of 72% – making it the most successful auctioneers in the Midlands this year.
