Traditional values, modern solutions

Do you have a property to sell or let?

Welcome to Staff Spotlight, our brand-new blog series where we shine a light on the incredible people behind Bond Wolfe. In each edition, we’ll be sitting down with a different team member, diving into their career journey, inspirations, and a few fun quick-fire questions to get to know them better.

Kicking things off is none other than our CEO, Gurpreet Bassi. From his biggest inspirations to what keeps him motivated, Gurpreet shares an inside look at his leadership style, achievements, and even his go-to karaoke songs.

What do you enjoy most about working at Bond Wolfe?

Without question, it’s the people. We have an incredible team, and there’s always a great atmosphere in the office. The culture is all about working hard but also having fun. This current Bond Wolfe team is, without a doubt, the best I’ve worked alongside in my entire career. Their ability and work ethic are second to none, but they’re also great personalities and a joy to be around.

Who has inspired you most in your business life?

I have quite a few! My grandparents (both sets) are huge inspirations—they came to this country in the 1950s/60s without speaking a word of English and built the foundations for our family through sheer hard work and determination.

My Uncle Paul has been a big inspiration in business, always offering advice. But my biggest inspirations are my Mum and my Aunt. They raised me and my siblings, doing everything for us. They’re incredibly strong, determined women, and I believe my work ethic comes from them.

What drives and motivates you?

My wife and two sons. Everything I do is for them—they give me the strength and determination to push myself. My career wouldn’t be where it is today without their support.

My brothers also motivate me. We’re very close, and I’ve always felt a responsibility to guide and support them. They often act as my unofficial therapists, offering advice on both personal and business matters!

What is your biggest achievement?

Launching and growing Bond Wolfe Auctions. It fills me with immense pride when I think back to the early days, the sleepless nights, and the doubts. Now, we’re entering our 7th year! A huge shoutout to the team members who took a chance on a start-up and put their blood, sweat, and tears into making it a success—especially Sue Randell and Perm Daley, who are the backbone of the business.

The best part? We built it our way and created the best team.

If you weren’t in your current role, what career would you have pursued?

As a kid, I dreamed of being a footballer. As I got older, I actually fancied being a lawyer—one of those high-powered ones from an American TV show!

What do you enjoy doing in your free time?

Spending time with my family—my idea of bliss is being on a holiday with my wife, kids, siblings, and their families. We try to do it every year, and it’s when I’m happiest.

I also love watching Liverpool games with my brothers and travelling with close friends.

What’s your favourite movie and TV show?

  • Movie: The Godfather (Parts 1 and 2)
  • TV Show: The Sopranos, closely followed by Peaky Blinders

If you were stranded on a desert island, what three things would you bring?

My wife and two sons!

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?

I’ve had loads of great advice over the years, but two stand out:

  1. Leaders who don’t listen will eventually be surrounded by people with nothing to say.
  2. The analogy of carrying a full pint glass of water—it weighs little at first, but the longer you hold it, the heavier it feels. This reminds me to let go of negative influences instead of carrying the burden.

If you could live in any era, past or future, which one would you choose?

I’d go back to my childhood. There’s a saying that youth is wasted on the young! I was quite tough on myself growing up and lacked confidence. I wish I had enjoyed it more.
