Victorian factory in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter with Grade II-listing to be auctioned
An impressive Grade II-listed former factory dating back to 1870 that sits in Birmingham’s fast-developing Jewellery Quarter is likely to draw fierce bidding in Bond Wolfe’s auction next month.
The property at 85-87 Vittoria Street, which is to be sold on behalf of Birmingham City Council, will appear in the livestreamed auction on 13 July with a guide price* of £350,000+.
Ron Darlington, consultant director at Bond Wolfe, explained that the Victorian building had been more recently used as a training centre and offices, although it was considered suitable for many other uses, depending on planning permission.
Mr Darlington said: “This tall, red brick property was originally purpose-built as a factory and it’s eye-catching, round-headed windows and arched wagon entrance are just some of the unaltered features that led to its listing by Historic England.
“The property has a total floor area of approximately 2,339 sq ft and sits flush to the pavement with a rear courtyard with parking for six vehicles.
“There is an entrance hall, three rooms, access to a cellar, rear lobby and store on the ground floor, with a landing three rooms, fire escape access and women’s toilets on the first floor.
“The second floor has a similar lay-out, with a landing, three rooms, fire escape access and men’s toilets.
“85-87 Vittoria Street is to be sold with its existing use as office accommodation, but we feel it could be suitable for various alternatives, including leisure, hospitality or community uses.
“It could also be developed for tourism related uses, including hotel and residential use to the upper floors, but all these potentials would be subject to obtaining planning consents.”
The Victorian former factory is just one of 185 properties appearing in Bond Wolfe’s auction which is due to start at 9am on Thursday 13 July.
The auction will be livestreamed via Bond Wolfe’s website with remote bidding by proxy, telephone or internet.
